Exposure to Dangerous Toxins More Common than You Might Think

We’ve been writing about the toxic lead levels found in the soil around East Chicago and, most particularly, near the West Calumet Housing Complex.   If you believe your child has been exposed to these toxic lead levels, we want to hear from you.

Evidence of toxic levels of dangerous chemicals is really not that uncommon.   We have all heard of many incidents or mesothelioma, as close to us as Chicago and Gary. Decades later, people who were exposed to asbestos in places such as factories and other settings are now being diagnosed with mesothelioma, an aggressive form of lung cancer with a poor prognosis.

Across the country there have been other examples of toxicity in the news lately.

This spring the Paulsboo High School in New Jersey was evacuated after evidence of toxic fumes was found. Multiple individuals were sent to local hospitals when a broken seal on a tank caused the odor of Naphtha, a liquid hydrocarbon mixture, to permeate the town.

Several employees and students have filed lawsuits against the PBF Energy refinery alleging the company was negligent in allowing them to breathe this toxic chemical which could cause long lasting respiratory effects.

Many times exposure to toxins, as is the case with the mesothelioma cases, does not show any negative effects until years, if not decades, later.

Last month, in fact, New York extended the statute of limitations for collection of personal injury damages caused by contamination from Superfund sites.  The legislation is a result of public concern about the discovery of water contamination in Hoosick Falls, New York, and Flint, Michigan.  Injured parties that were unaware that their illnesses were caused by exposure to contamination from a Superfund site may have more time to file suit.

If you believe you or a loved one has suffered as the result of exposure to dangerous toxins, the lawyers at Theodoros & Rooth want you to tell us about it.

As earlier mentioned, we are aggressively pursuing many complaints regarding the high levels of toxic lead found in the soil in East Chicago.

Contact us immediately if you have any concerns about exposure to toxic materials of any kind.   If we determine you have a case, we will represent you with understanding and compassion while seeking the compensation you deserve.  There is never a charge for a consolation.
